We have wetland areas and have seen wildlife often. The wildlife includes deer, opposum, racoons, wild turkey, sandhill cranes, falcons, hawks, woodpeckers, bluejays, cardinals and more. Each morning we offer fresh omelets made from chicken or duck eggs according to your preference for $10 charge per person per day paid the day prior. A third guests may stay for an additional fee paid with your booking. They will be provided with a bed and towels No guest is allowed to sleep on the couch or any part of the shared areas. Your room is a private room with a lock on the door. You will also have a key to access the building nytime during your stay. We have shared laundry, restroom, kitchen, dining room and livingroom areas. We sanitize the shared kitchen and restroom areas daily. Bleach wipes are also available for guests to use in most rooms. Between reservations rooms are stripped of all bedding and freshly laundered bedding is used to make the beds. Pillows and matresses have bed bug protectors. Decorative pillows are laundered as well. Intro: I affectionately refer to this house as “The House That Built Me.” Referencing (of course) the title of country artist Miranda Lamberts hit song, from 2010. The lyrics couldn’t be more accurate. My name is Crystal, and this is The House That Built Me. My father bought this property in 1970. He married my mother and her two children in 1976. I was brought home from the hospital to this home in 1977 & raised here with my siblings, until eventually we all married and left home. The space: This is a beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath lake house, in the sweet little town of Wauconda, Illinois. Situated on almost one acre of lakefront land, this property is unique as it is arranged and shares land with a few other small cottages, and longterm tenants. All neighbors are very friendly. You will feel extremely safe and welcome. Property runs parallel to Homer T. Cook park. Recreation center, running/walking nature path, skateboard park all only footsteps away. Perfect location for those who enjoy the outdoors; fishing, biking, paddle boarding, kayaking, etc... Guest Access: Access to lake is included with your stay. We allow all guests and longterm tenants to use our kayaks, paddle board, row boat and paddle boat. We have a few fishing poles, some (limited) tackle, life vests and flashlights. We recommend any avid fisherman, bring their own poles & tackle. What we offer is much more amateur, level. In addition to what we provide, there are many options as far as opportunities to rent boats, jet skis, wave runners, etc... as well as a few local bait shops. We have just about everything imaginable in the kitchen to prepare meals. A plethora of pots & pans, wok, serving bowls/dishes, juicer, crockpot, coffee maker, toaster oven, waffle maker, bread maker, etc... Often times many spices and oils are left behind to share. We provide a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, plenty of bath towels, two bath robes, and always have extra shampoo/conditioner, in case you have forgotten to pack yours. Extra amenities include: 4 bicycles, 3 fire pits, cornhole game, adult yard games, coolers, beach towels, tree hammocks, a picnic basket, cable, WiFi, a wireless/bluetooth printer and speaker, several adult card and board games, as well as a few essential oil defusers. We try to provide some extras, for traveling families with little ones. Things we would appreciate if traveling with children, like: a portable crib/playpen, high chair, stroller, bouncers, sippy cups, toys; dolls, barbies, blocks, trucks, puzzles, games, sleeping bags, teepee tents, 2 scooters, helmets, etc... and most recently, a really fun tree swing! There are 3 propane tanks in total, on the property. Two firepit tanks and one grill tank. They’re approximately $25 each, to switch out at the local gas station. This expense/hassle is NOT covered in your stay, if any should need to be refilled. Owner frequently manages from afar, and doesn’t have the ability to “test” tanks. You’re most welcome to enjoy the fire pits/grill as a bonus amenity, but please keep in mind owner does not check them, fill them, OR REFUND the expense for switching them out. We only make sure 3 tanks still remain on property at the end of each stay. In addition to the gas grill, we also provide a charcoal grill. We do not provide charcoal. Summer 2020: There is currently no private dock on the property. Sadly, it saw its last year in 2019. Fortunately, there are two public docks within steps from our water bank. FOR GROUPS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE MORE THAN 4 GUEST OR USE MORE THAN 2 BEDS: *** Hensley’s Cornerstone does NOT charge extra per person.*** To keep the price down for larger groups, we require our “extra guests” (groups larger than 4, or using more than 2 beds) to make sure (all) bed and bath linen is washed per provided instructions, before checkout. While only VRBO guests have access to the main house... the parking area is shared with longterm tenants who also occasionally walk down by the lake and/or use kayaks. Owner lives part-time in cottage on property, but is most frequently traveling. Notes: After the passing of my father in 2013, I inherited my childhood home and hold this property to the highest of sentimental value and treasure. The last 8 years have been a labor of love! I have worked very hard to transform many aspects, while trying to maintain the integrity of some of the original craftsmanship. It is an ongoing work in progress, as I’m still in the process of refurbishing. A new dock and beach area, a newly paved driveway etc.. are all part of the dream, for the future of Hensley’s Cornerstone. Every year we see success, is another project we can tackle! (Non rush hour) The neighborhood is a newer, upscale,and well kept subdivision of Wauconda featuring large side walks on each side of the street and multiple parks. In the winter you might see the bravest kids playing in the snow and their dads snowing blowing their driveways. In the warmer months you'll likely hear and see children playing outside and smell the dads grilling outdoors. One of the longest bike trails (35 miles) of all of Chicago land called the Millennium Trail is among us and leads to nearby forest preserves. Go for a walk, run, or bike ride. (Need a bike or bike trailer. I maybe able to help you with that. Just ask.) Want to get to the city but don't want to deal with traffic and parking? There are 4 Chicago Metra stations within a 15 min drive. My preference is Prairie Crossing which is actually two train stations in one where two separate train lines intersect. (Train lines Milwaukee District North (more popular ) and North Central.) If your staying a few days make sure to get to the city at least once. It's very easy and weekends are discounted. Uber and Lyft both run out here. You are booking the entire house except the basement of which I occupy at times. I enter the basement through a private entrance and utilize no other areas of the property. The basement access door from inside the house is locked in both directions.

This home has 4 levels and can sleep up to 18 guests comfortably. You enter at the second level to find a full kitchen and dining area with a half bath. From there you can step down into the family room and laundry room which has a washer and dryer for your use. If you step up to the third level you will come to 3 bedrooms and one full bathroom. From there you step up to the fourth level to find a living room area, the master bedroom, to included a jacuzzi tub and walk in closet. Just off the master bedroom and living room you will find a toddler bedroom with 2 bunk beds. This home is pet friendly as it has a fenced in back yard to includes an outdoor dog kennel. But the dogs are not allowed on the beds or furniture. They need to stay on the main floor and lower family room where there is a dog couch. There is a nice patio area with a swimming pool back there too. The front of the house hosts a large porch for relaxing. House has a 2 car garage and driveway large enough to hold 6 more cars. There is a back drive way that can hold up to 6 more cars and if more parking is needed arrangements can be made. The back yard has a pool for your use during your stay. Please note your guests need to be registered for this stay to use the pool. No outside guests allowed in pool or on property during your stay for insurance purposes. If interested in kayaking on the nippersink. There are a total of 8 kayaks that can also be rented for your entire stay at $30 per kayak or $ 200 for all 8 of them. Just let me know. The glacier park is less than a mile away and that is where you can access with the kayaks. The trip can be 3 -4 hours to the next exit or 5 -6 hours if you want a longer trip. Please check the water levels before going out. There is a trailer the can be used to pull kayaks to the many lakes or parks in the area.
